Lip flip: a subtle first step
A lip flip uses a few units of neuromodulator placed along the upper lip border. Relaxing the muscle lets the upper lip roll slightly outward, showing a bit more of the pink portion and reducing a "gummy" smile — without adding volume. It is a quick, low-commitment option for women who want a subtle change.
Results appear in about a week and last roughly two to three months. Some patients notice it is temporarily harder to drink from a straw or pronounce certain sounds as they adjust.
How dermal fillers work
With age, hormonal shifts and sun exposure, the face loses collagen, fat and bone support. Cheeks flatten, smile lines deepen, and lips thin. Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are gels made from a substance naturally found in skin. Placed precisely, they restore volume, smooth folds, and support structure.
Different fillers have different thickness and lift. Firmer products support cheeks and jawline; softer products are used in lips and fine lines. HA fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme if ever needed, adding a layer of safety.

The treatment experience
Consultation includes a discussion of goals, facial analysis and medical history. Most fillers contain lidocaine for comfort, and topical numbing can be used for lips. Treatment usually takes 30 to 45 minutes, and results are visible immediately, settling over about two weeks.
Swelling and bruising are common for a few days, especially in the lips. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and blood thinners like aspirin around treatment when medically appropriate to reduce bruising.
How long fillers last
Depending on the product and area, results last about 6 to 18 months. Lips tend to metabolize filler faster; cheek fillers often last longer.
Safety first
Fillers are medical procedures with rare but serious risks, including blood vessel occlusion. Treatment by a licensed clinician with thorough anatomical knowledge and an emergency plan is essential. A natural, conservative approach is always favored at JennWell.
Preparing for your visit
Coming prepared helps you get the most from an appointment about lip flips and fillers. Bring a few photos of looks you like — and ones you do not — to guide the conversation. Share any history of cold sores, since an antiviral may be recommended before lip treatment. If medically appropriate, avoid alcohol and blood-thinning supplements for a few days beforehand, and schedule at least two weeks before events to allow swelling to resolve. Previous filler history, including product names, is helpful.
